Men's Soccer Falls In Final Minutes To Northern Kentucky

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's soccer dropped a 2-1 decision to Northern Kentucky Saturday at E.S. Rose Park.

The matched began very physical in the first half with ­­a combined 19 total fouls tallied between each of the teams.

In the 15th minute of play, Pedro Miranda (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) was fouled just out side the 18-yard box.  Miranda took the ensuing penalty kick, burring it in the back of the Northern Kentucky net to put the Bruins ahead 1-0.  The goal was Miranda's second of the season. 

Each team only recorded one shot on goal in the first half.

The second half played much like the first.  Both teams continued to play physical with 18 fouls occurring between the teams. 

In the 71st minute, Northern Kentucky was able to score the equalizer.  Cian McDonald finished the goal off a cross from Nic Toney for his first goal of the season.  Then with only a minute and a half left in the game, NKU's Kevin Walker scored the go head goal for the Norse that would eventually secure the win for Northern Kentucky.

Belmont falls to 3-5-1 with the loss, while Northern Kentucky grabs their first win of the season, improving to 1-6.

The Bruins return to action on Thursday, September 27 at Rose Park.  BU hosts long-time rival Lipscomb in the annual Battle of the Boulevard.  Match time is set for 5 p.m. and live stats will be available.
