Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to Lipscomb Thursday night at E.S. Rose Park.
The highly-anticipated 'Battle of the Boulevard' match lived up to advanced billing, with spirited, physical play.
Though Belmont outshot the visiting Bisons 5-1 in the opening 45, neither team was able to break through and score.
19 total fouls were committed by both teams combined, 11 for the Bisons and eight for Belmont.
In the second half, Belmont appeared to start to gain the upper hand with near goals by senior Brandon Tarr (Knoxville, Tenn.) and freshman Raphael Colmanette (San Paulo, Brazil). Belmont would muster up a few more offensive assaults but come up empty handed.
The Bisons capitalized on a counter in the 77th minute of play with a goal by Reece Holcombe to give Lipscomb the lead, it was Holcombe's first goal of the season.
The Bruins were unable to find the equalizer in the remaining minutes as the Bisons held on to top BU, 1-0.
Belmont men's soccer (3-6-1) will be back in action this Saturday at 6:00 p.m. against Jacksonville at Rose Park.
