NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont volleyball (12-12, 5-3) won their fourth straight match with a sweep of UT Martin Saturday afternoon in the Curb Event Center.
Behind a kill from senior Jen Myer (New Braunfels, Tex.) the Bruins scored four straight points to take a 4-1 lead. With the set tied at 9-9, Belmont went on a 5-0 run to take a 14-9 lead and the Skyhawks responded by with three points of their own. The Bruins would continue to extend their lead and finished the set on a 4-2 run to win the opening set, 25-18.
Belmont took a 3-0 lead in set two and continued to control the set. The Skyhawks continued to cut Belmont's runs short, but the Bruins never relinquished the lead. A kill from sophomore Jocelyn Youngdahl (Stillwater, Minn.) sparked a four-point run that ended the set in favor of the Bruins, 25-17.
The third set began close with the score tied four times, but the Bruins continued to play strong. Behind a run sparked by senior Allison McCoy (Huntington Beach, Calif.) the Bruins took a 16-8 lead.
Belmont reached the set point, but UTM kept the match alive with two straight points before a Skyhawk attack error ended the set, 25-16.
Belmont hit .324 while holding UTM to a .138 hitting percentage in the match.
Gable, who registered a double-double, led the team with 11 kills and added 10 digs. McCoy recorded 10 kills.
The Bruins continue their homestand on Friday, October 25 with Tennessee Tech. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm.
