Box Score MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Belmont women's soccer team (6-8-2, 4-4-1 OVC) picked up its second consecutive win with a 1-0 shutout on the road at Morehead State (7-10-1, 6-3-0 OVC) on Sunday afternoon. The victory improves the Bruins to 4-4-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
"Today, we knew had to fight the fight and we did not give up," said Head Coach Heather Henson. "Everything in today's game was about teamwork - the effort on the field, the goal, everything. I am very proud of our effort today."
Senior Katie Proud (Knoxville, Tenn.) netted the gamewinner, marking the second consecutive match when she found the back of the net in the 80th minute off a long rebound when the Eagles goalkeeper came out of the net.
Morehead State held the advantage in shots, 10-6, and corner kicks, 4-1.
Six players recorded one shot apiece - Proud and classmate Amy Jo Anderson (Birmingham, Ala.), juniors Alison Alcott (Dallas, Texas), Elise DeTrude (Carmel, Ind.), and Allie Hicks (Carmel, Ind.), and sophomore Emily Proud (Knoxville, Tenn.).
Senior Nicole Berner (Randolph, N.J.) collected four saves on the day in 90 minutes between the posts.
Belmont returns to action on Friday for its regular season finale at Rose Park. The Bruins host in-state rival Tennessee Tech beginning at 5 p.m.
