CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont volleyball (15-12, 8-3) extended its win streak to seven after a clean sweep of Austin Peay Friday night.
A kill from senior Allison McCoy (Huntington Beach, Calif.) got things started for the Bruins, but Austin Peay responded quickly taking a lead. A run sparked by a kill from senior Jen Myer (New Braunfels, Tex.) put Belmont ahead by two, 5-3 before the Lady Govs answered back.
An 8-2 run allowed Belmont to take a 19-11 lead. Austin Peay tried to close the gap, but the Bruins closed the set, 25-20 in the first set.
In set two, Belmont jumped out to an early lead but both teams exchanged points throughout, keeping the set very close. The Bruins scored four straight points to take a 19-15 lead. Austin Peay fought back to tie the set at 23-23, but kills from juniors Alex Martin (Ooltewah, Tenn.) and Scarlet Gable (Munford, Tenn.) ended the set, 25-23.
After the break, Austin Peay took a 6-3 lead, but Belmont scored six unanswered points to take a 9-6 lead. The Lady Govs tied the set at 9-9 and both teams exchanged points until the Bruins went on a 9-1 run to take control of the set, 22-12. Austin Peay responded with their own run but Belmont ended the set behind a kill from Gable, 25-18.
McCoy led the team with 13 kills while Gable added 12. Senior setter Hannah Miranda (Covington, La.) dished out 35 assists while senior libero Jamie Lundstrom (La Grange, Ill.) had 15 digs.
Belmont will return to action tomorrow at Murray State at 2:00pm.
