Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont men's soccer team succombed, 3-1, to the Lipscomb Bisons Friday evening in a heated Battle of the Boulevard match at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.
The Bisons struck first with a quick blow midway through the first half as back-to-back goals less than three minutes apart put Lipscomb (1-0) out to the early 2-0 lead over the shorthanded Bruins who were playing without three starters for the opening match of the season.
Playing down a man in the second half due to a red card ejection in the 38th minute of the first half, the Bruins battled tough the rest of they way against the host Bisons.
Late in the second half, Belmont (0-1) got within a goal when freshman forward AJ Arnold (Jackson, Miss.) found the back of the net off a pass from sophomore defender Alfred Edmonds (San Jose, Calif.).
The Bisons quickly answered the late Bruin rally as Lipscomb countered with a goal a mere three minutes later to seal the victory.
For the match, the heated rivals combined for a total of six yellow cards to go along with the red card.
Belmont returns to action Saturday, September 7, when the Bruins host Missouri State for the 2013 home opening contest at 2 p.m.
