Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont men's soccer team outlasted Cleveland St. Friday evening in the first day of the Belmont Invitational held at Rose Park.
The Bruins attacked early in the contest as sophomore defender Alfred Edmonds (San Jose, Calif.) took a pass from senior midfielder Nico Olsak (Boca Raton, Fla.) to punch in his first career goal just under three minutes into the match.
That quick strike of lightning by the Bruins proved to be the lone score of the evening as the rest of the match proved to be a defensive struggle.
The two teams combined for 10 shots on the night, with just three of them being on goal.
CSU (2-3) rallied late but last ditch shot attempts by the Vikings sailed wide of the goal as the Buins held on to notch their second straight victory on the season.
Belmont improves to 2-1 on the season and will return to the pitch in the second and final day of the Belmont Invitational Sunday as the Bruins square off against the UIC Flames who proved victorious earlier this afternoon against Lipscomb, 2-0.
The match will begin at 2:30 p.m. CT at Rose Park.
