Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont men's soccer team fell to Illinois-Chicago 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Rose Park in the final day of the 2013 Mafiaozas Belmont Invitational.
UIC lit up the scoreboard 13 minutes into the match when senior forward Josh Beard found the back of the net to give the Flames the early 1-0 advantage.
Belmont couldn't seem to muster much offense the rest of the half as the Bruins went into the half trailing for the first time this season at Rose Park.
Belmont came out of the locker rooms with a renewed sense of urgency as BU's offense controlled the tempo throughout the final period.
Belmont failed to capatilize on its chances, however, and a goal by UIC's Alexious Fronimos put the game out of reach for the Bruins as the Flames went on to capture the final game of the weekend invitational, 2-0.
The Belmont duo of Alfred Edmonds (San Jose, Calif.) and Joao Fonseca (Aracaju, Brazil) combined for eight shots in the contest as the Bruins outshot the Flames 14-8.
Bruin freshman keeper Grayson Rector (Peachtree City, Ga.) recorded a game-high four saves on the afternoon.
Belmont (2-2) lost for the first time this season at Rose Park as the Bruins split the weekend invitational after a 1-0 victory against Cleveland St. on Friday.
UIC (3-2) went undefeated on the weekend as the Flames topped Lipscomb 2-0 in their first match Friday afternoon.
The Bruins hits the road for the next six contests starting with a trip down the boulevard for a pair of contests at the Lipscomb Invitational held at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.
The Bruins will square off against Central Arkansas on Friday, Sept. 20, at 5 p.m. CT. On Sunday, Belmont will match up against Appalachian State on at 1 p.m. CT.
