Men's Soccer Defeats Central Arkansas in First Day of Lipscomb Invitational

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont men's soccer team defeated Central Arkansas, 4-0, Friday evening on the first day of the Hyatt Place Select Lipscomb Invitational at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

Belmont received contributions from several Bruins on the evening as Belmont notched a season-best four goals against the Bears.

The offensive fireworks started midway through the first half when Bruin forward AJ Arnold (Jackson, Miss.) knocked in a pass from midfielder Raphael Colmanette (Sao Paulo, Brazil) to light up the scoreboard first for Belmont.

Arnold's goal was a team-leading third of the season for the freshman.

The second goal of the night came ten minutes later when defender Alfred Edmonds (San Jose, Calif.) took a pass from forward Joao Fonseca (Aracaju, Brazil) to notch his second goal of the season as the Bruins took a 2-0 advantage heading into the half.

Belmont (3-2-0) didn't let up in the second period as Colmanette dished out another Bruin goal.

This time Luca Schioppa (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was the recipient of a Colmanette pass when the junior midfielder notched his first goal of the season, third of his Belmont career, giving the Bruins a commanding 3-0 lead five minutes into the half.

Colmanette's impact on the game wasn't complete, however, as the sophomore found the back of the net himself in the 71st minute off an unassisted strike five yards outside of the box.

The goal was his first of the season, the fourth of his career.

The goal proved to be the the final scoring strike of the evening for Belmont as the Bruins went on to shutout Central Arkansas, 4-0.

It was the most goals scored in a match by a Bruin squad since almost two years to the day when Belmont shutout IPFW, 4-0, on September 18 2011.

On the evening, the Bruins out-shot the Bears 16-10, as Belmont recorded a commanding 7-3 shot-on-goal advantage.

Bruin goal keeper Greyson Rector (3-2) recorded his second shutout effort of his Belmont career as the freshman recorded three saves on the contest.

Belmont will return to the pitch Sunday when the Bruins close out the Hyatt Place Select Lipscomb Invitational with a noon matchup against Appalachian St. at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

Live stats will be available for the match with the Mountaineers. Also, make sure to follow @BelmontMSoccer on Twitter and Instagram for all the latest information about the Bruins.
