Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont men's soccer team earned a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Missouri State Saturday afternoon at Rose Park to notch their first win of the 2013 season.
After a well played first half, the two teams remained scoreless on a blistering day at Rose Park.
Belmont lit up the scoreboard first midway through the second half when sophomore Nicolas Ricard (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored his first career goal in the 71st minute of action to put the Bruins out on front, 1-0.
The previously undefeated Bears wouldn't go away quietly, however, as a goal from MSU's Jack Wood tied up the match just three minutes later.
The two teams played even throughout the rest of regulation as the game was sent into overtime.
In the overtime session, the deciding goal came with just under three minutes remaining as Belmont's freshman forward AJ Arnold (Jackson, Miss.) recorded his second of the season, and sent the Bruins to a 2-1 victory.
Statistically, the two teams played even as Missouri State (2-1) held a slim shot advantage over Belmont (12-11).
Bruin goal keeper Grayson Rector (Peachtree City, Ga.) (1-1) earned his first career victory as the freshman recorded seven saves on the contest.
Belmont (1-1) returns to action Friday, Sept. 13, when the Bruins take on Cleveland State at 6 p.m. in their opening game of the Belmont Invitational held at Rose Park.
