Box Score DAYTON, Ohio - - Belmont University men's soccer dropped a 3-0 decision Wednesday night at Wright State.
The Bruins, fresh off an inspired second 45 against Valparaiso last Friday, created some early chances.
Sophomore AJ Arnold (Jackson, Miss.) sent a header high in the second minute, then moments later after some nice build up, freshman Matt Vuylsteke (Hamilton, Ont., Canada) nearly tallied, but his right-footed redirect went just wide.
In the 21st minute, Wright State took a 1-0 lead on a shot from distance by Peguy Ngatcha.
Belmont continued to showcase fine skill and possession in the midfield, but the host Raiders remained poised.
In the 33rd minute, AJ Paterson set up Eric Lynch to extend to a two goal lead.
Then as the Bruins battled to get on the board before halftime, Paterson headed one past sophomore Grayson Rector (Peachtree City, Ga.) to provide the ultimate margin.
Belmont got more quality play from its seniors Luca Schioppa (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Diego Figueroa (Pensacola, Fla.), but the Bruins couldn't capitalize on scoring chances.
"We started well but Wright State was able to score a great goal and we didn't respond well after," Belmont head coach Bryan Green said following the match. "Although we played really well in the second half, it was too deep of a hole to climb out of."
The Bruins (1-9-0, 0-2-0 Horizon) return to action Saturday, Oct. 4 versus Cleveland State. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CT.
