Men's Soccer

Tough Ending

Box Score

CHICAGO, Ill. - - Belmont University men's soccer dropped a 4-0 decision at UIC Friday night.

The Bruins, who shouldered a tough result to league leader Detroit on a penalty last Saturday to end postseason hopes, simply could not find a rhythm against the formidable Flames.

UIC showcased the form that led them to a national No. 23 ranking during non-conference and led them to a Horizon League championship a year ago.

Nevertheless, Belmont hung tough, withstanding an early shot disparity behind strong backline play and netminding from sophomore Grayson Rector (Peachtree City, Ga.) to get to halftime scoreless.

But seeming frustration from the host Flames poured out in waves to open the second 45, as UIC scored three goals in the first 4:27 of the second half to change the tenor of the match.

The Bruins fought to close the margin, but in the 62nd minute, freshman Adriano Balani (Durres, Albania) saw his blast rattle off the framework.

Rector would continue to make some fine saves, before Jesus Torres provided the final margin with less than four minutes remaining.

Belmont ends the season 3-15-0, 1-7-0 in Horizon League play.
