Men's Soccer Falls to Houston Baptist

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's soccer dropped a 4-0 decision to Houston Baptist Friday evening in the Hyatt Place Select Lipscomb Invitational.

Seeking positive momentum from Sunday's victory over Gardner-Webb, the Bruins were dealt a severe blow early.

Just over three minutes into the match, Stefan Lamanna capitalized on a corner kick chance to give Houston Baptist a 1-0 lead.

From there, however, Belmont really settled in and showcased tremendous skill and distribution in the midfield. But promising opportunities from freshman Rashad Hyacenth (D'Abadie, Trinidad & Tobago) and senior Luca Schioppa (Sao Paulo, Brazil) narrowly missed.

The Bruins outshot the Huskies, 7-6, in the opening 45 minutes, with sophomore goalkeeper Grayson Rector (Peachtree City, Ga.) having little activity.

However, the Huskies showed few ill-effects from playing less than 48 hours prior, striking three times in a 10 minutes span early in the second half.

"It wasn't our best game today, but credit Houston Baptist for punishing us for our mistakes," Belmont head coach Bryan Green said. "We will get back together tomorrow and get ready for Sunday."

Belmont (1-6) returns to action Sunday against Memphis. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. CT from the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.
