Box Score MARTIN, Tenn. - - Belmont University women's soccer (3-11-2, 2-5-1 OVC) dropped a 3-1 decision at UT Martin (5-10, 3-4 OVC) Sunday afternoon.
Just three minutes into the contest, the Skyhawks struck first, as Maggie Burkett slithered behind the Bruin defense and beat netminder Stephanie Bukovec to make the score 1-0.
After even play into halftime, UT Martin tallied early in the second half, as Saphyr Coombs-James recorded her sixth goal of the season in the 49th minute.
The Bruins closed within 2-1 in the 75th minute, as junior Meg Howard (Brentwood, Tenn.) assisted sophomore Belicia Mendiola (McKinney, Texas) on a sharp combination play in the Martin box.
But scrambling for an equalizer, Belmont yielded a backbreaker in the 86th minute as Sierra Franz scored inside the right post.
Both teams recorded 13 shots, four on goal.
Belmont returns to action Friday, Oct. 23 at Eastern Kentucky. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. CT.
