Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont drops the match to Western Kentucky in three sets 25-11, 25-20, and 26-24.
Sophomore Arianna Person (Lenexa, Kan.) led the team with 15 kills on the evening. Followed closely by Sophomore Brie Lewis (Stillwell, Kan.) who recorded 12 kills and only one error for an average of .407. Redshirt Sophomore Emma Price (Fort Mill, SC) recorded 28 assists on the evening with two kills. As a whole the team recorded 46 digs in the match. Person led the team with 11, while Sophomore Emily Richards (Penfield, N.Y.) added 10. Lewis recorded eight digs, while Price and Sophomore Ellie Ivancich (Naperville, Ill.) both recorded six.
Despite a five kill first set by Lewis for an average of .364, the Bruins dropped set one to Western Kentucky 25-11. Price recorded nine assists in the first set.
The Bruins step up their offense recording 13 kills and two aces in set two. Lewis recorded another four kills while Person added five in the second set. Simmons added two kills to the set and Price notched another 10 assists.
The Bruins and Hilltoppers fought point-for-point in set three alternating who lead on a consistent basis. With a couple kills by WKU they took the lead 19-17. On overpass kill by Youngdahl closed the set in to 23-22. After a time-out called by Head Coach Tony Howell and a missed serve by WKU, a huge kill by Person tied the set up at 24 a piece. Western closes out the set 26-24 with a big kill. Belmont recorded 12 kills in set three, seven of those being from Person. Price added another nine assists in set three.
Belmont will have the weekend off, returning home Tuesday, Sept. 22 for a battle of the boulevard game against Lipscomb. The match will take place at Curb Event Center at 6:00 central time.
