NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball returns to game action Saturday at Tennessee State.
Belmont defeated Eastern Illinois, 77-64, Wednesday. Senior Evan Bradds (Jamestown, Ohio) had a game-high 23 points for the Bruins. Bradds has 148 points and 49 rebounds over his last six games.
The game will feature four Preseason All-OVC selections: Bradds and senior Taylor Barnette (Lexington, Ky.) for Belmont and Tahjere McCall and Wayne Martin for Tennessee State.
Former All-OVC players Ian Clark of Belmont and Robert Covington of Tennessee State are enjoying solid young careers in the NBA; Clark for the Golden State Warriors and Covington for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Junior Austin Luke (Rowlett, Texas) had a career-high 20 points and then career-high 11 assists versus Tennessee State last season (1/24/16) for his first career double-double. Bradds scored a career-high 36 points in the same game.
Former Bruin point guard and current East Tennessee State assistant coach Brian Collins ('06) served as a graduate assistant and director of basketball operations at Tennessee State from 2007-09.
Belmont head coach Rick Byrd completed his first year as head coach at Lincoln Memorial University the year Tennessee State head coach Dana Ford was born (1984).
This marks the 27th meeting between Belmont and Tennessee State.
