CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University women's golf senior Mallory Sullivan (Smithville, Tenn.) earned medalist honors at the 2017 F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate Tuesday.
Sullivan, whose 146 total through 36 holes was one shot clear of Shani White of ULM, battled through blustery conditions and vexing hole locations.
The senior's resiliency was put to the test right away, as consecutive double-bogeys to open her round brought the field back into play.
However, Sullivan settled in, playing her next 14 holes in level par (two birdies, two bogeys).
There was high drama down the stretch between Sullivan, White, and Hanna Netisingha of Southern Illinois, but Sullivan's 54-hole total of 225 (+9) held up.
"I am very proud of Mallory," Belmont head coach Lissa Bradford said following the round. "Especially how she hung in there today after a rough start in tough conditions on a tough course."
Sullivan joins Lorie Warren, Audra Williams and Janet Steen as the fourth Belmont women's golfer to earn individual medalist honors at a full field event.
Sullivan adds the victory to her T-4 at Northern Kentucky earlier this season.
As for the team leaderboard, Belmont placed sixth with a 54-hole total of 970.
The Bruins carded nine team birdies Tuesday, but consistent low scores were in short supply for the entire field at Clarksville Country Club; there were only three sub-75 rounds on Tuesday.
Sophomore Julia Nittoli (San Antonio, Texas) placed T36 at 248, while junior Emma Kate Liu was 40th at 250.
Sophomore Carlee Nanney (Fulton, Miss.) finished 42nd at 253, while senior Maddie Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) was 43rd at 255.
