Belmont defeated Trevecca Nazarene, 96-45, Tuesday. Eight Bruins scored eight or more points in the victory.
The Bruins secured their ninth regular season conference championship since 2006. Only Kansas and Gonzaga have more over that span.
Seniors Evan Bradds (Jamestown, Ohio) and Taylor Barnette (Lexington, Ky.) and Tennessee State's Tahjere McCall and Wayne Martin were named Preseason All-OVC. Bradds and McCall are the reigning OVC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year award winners, respectively.
Former All-OVC players Ian Clark of Belmont and Robert Covington of Tennessee State are enjoying solid young careers in the NBA; Clark for the Golden State Warriors and Covington for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Former Bruin point guard and current East Tennessee State assistant coach Brian Collins ('06) served as a graduate assistant and director of basketball operations at Tennessee State from 2007-09.
Belmont head coach Rick Byrd completed his first year as head coach at Lincoln Memorial University the year Tennessee State head coach Dana Ford was born (1984).
This marks the 28th meeting between Belmont and Tennessee State.
