MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The Belmont women's golf team moved up a spot and finished in sixth place at the OVC Championship held this week on the Schoolmaster Course at the RTJ Golf Trail at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
In Wednesday's final round, the Bruins improved on their team score for a second consecutive day to move up one spot in the final standings. They carded a final round 312 to finish in sixth place with a 54-hole score of 947. Murray State won the team title with a mark of 898, with Jacksonville State close behind in second place at 902.
Belmont was led by junior Emma Kate Liu. The junior from Dallas, Texas posted a 77 in the final round to finish in 16th place at 234. It was her second top-20 finish at the OVC Championship in the last three years. Only five other Bruins have two career top-20 finishes at a conference championship.
Freshman Maribeth Peevy carded a team low 76 on Tuesday to finish in 21st place with a score of 237. It was the fifth top-25 finish for the Collierville, Tennessee product.
Other Belmont scores from the championship included: sophomore Carlee Nanney (23rd, 239), senior Mallory Sullivan (T-24, 240), and freshman Ann Catherine Blackburn (T-38, 251).
Jacksonville State's Valentine Giraldo won the individual title with a score of 218.
This tournament ends the season for the women's golf team. In nine events, they had six top-six finishes.
