Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Belmont University Men's Soccer fell 3-0 to the University of Memphis Saturday night at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
It didn't take long for Memphis to open things up as a cross in the third minute was placed at the back post and slotted in by the Tigers to take a 1-0 lead.
Even though they were down early, the Bruins kept its foot on the accelerator. Freshman Niccolo Dagnoni (Milan, Italy) made the first great offensive threat for the Bruins, breaking through the Tigers defense and blasting a shot on target that forced the Memphis keeper to make a save, preserving the Tigers lead.
In the 34thminute, senior Adam Voloder (New South Wales, Australia) threatened for the Bruins once again, rocketing a shot from the left side that skipped just wide of the far post.
Memphis would take a 2-0 lead in the 36thminute after it knocked one in after a scramble in front of the Belmont goal. Just before the halftime break, Voloder nearly cut the lead in half, when he drilled one that the Memphis net that the Tigers' keeper was forced to save.
In the second frame, the Bruins' continued to pressure the Memphis back line early on, peppering several dangerous shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Nicolo Dini (Settala, Italy) was impressive on the night, making several crucial saves including back-to-back saves in the 57thand 58thminutes.
Memphis scored what would prove to be the final goal of the night in the 75thminute to cap off their 3-0 victory.
Belmont will be back in action Tuesday, September 18 as they travel to South Carolina to take on Presbyterian. Kickoff is slated for 5:00 p.m. CT.
