MADISON, Ill. – Led by Evan Davis' runner-up finish, the Belmont men's golf team finished in third place out of 18 teams at this week's SIE Dolenc Invitational held at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Illinois.
Davis, a junior from Lexington, Kentucky, carded a final round 68 to finish in a tie for the lead at 209 (-4) with Tim Lim of Drake and Jake Vincent of Southern Utah. His score of 68 included six birdies and three bogeys.
In the playoff, Davis bowed out on the first hole as he parred, while his competitors birdied the hole. Later, Lim won medalist honors on the second playoff hole.
It was Evan's first top-10 finish of the season and eighth of his career. His runner-up finish tied a career best for Davis. His previous second place showing was in Savannah last February.
As a team, the Bruins shot a score of 291 in the final round to finish in third place at 868. UT-Martin won the team title with a mark of 852, while Tennessee Tech finished second at 858.
Other Belmont scores from the event included: junior Jack Uselton (T-29, 219), freshman Luke Whitney (T-36, 222), sophomore Coleman Jones (57th, 227), and junior Bogle LaRue (T-64, 230).
Freshman Jack Bergstrom competed as an individual and finished in a tie for 76th at 232.
The men's golf team is back in action next Monday and Tuesday at the JT Poston Invitational in Cashiers, North Carolina.
