Women's Soccer Finalized their Season in Chicago

Belmont fell 1-0 to UNI in MVC Tournament

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Belmont Women's Soccer 2022 season journey has come to an end in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament after a hard fought battle Thursday, October 27 against the University of Northern Iowa. The Bruins took the Panthers into overtime after a scoreless bout in regulation.

Belmont finished out their season 5-6-6 while 3-4-3 in conference. No. 7 Belmont faced No. 6 UNI in the first round of the MVC Tournament hosted by No. 3 the University of Illinois Chicago.

The Bruins left everything they had on the pitch Thursday afternoon, playing some of their best possession to date.

Belmont proved their resilience as they posted a 10 shot match, six on goal, compared to their blank sheet they tallied against the Panthers in the regular season. The Bruins posted five other double digit shot matches during the season.

In the eighty ninth minute of the match, in the first overtime, Panther defender Sophia Meier scored off of a corner kick.

The back line remained strong facing eight shots in the overtime minutes. Claire Fallon tallied her fourth team save on the season to prevent an additional Panther goal.

Sarah Doyle posted seven saves on the day to finalize her season total at 78. Doyle led the MVC consistently throughout the season in save percentage and finished at .875. Her .75 goals against average tops last year's to hold both the third and fourth spot in the record book. Doyle now lands second for her seven shutouts on the season.

Maci Pekmezian broke the 20 shot threshold to post 21 on the season with two against UNI to finish as the leader in shots. Pekemzian, Sweeney, and FIrsdon each posted three goals to pick up wins throughout the season.

Loren House finalized the season as the field player with the most minutes with 1,493. Claire Fallon (1,477)  and Avery Nowak (1,491) closely followed.

The 2022 season has been a journey, the Bruins look forward to getting back after it in the spring and are already thinking about the 2023 season.
