CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Belmont University volleyball fell on the road to the top team in the Missouri Valley Conference on Saturday night, dropping a 3-0 match to Northern Iowa at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa.Â
Northern Iowa (20-6, 13-0 MVC) remained unbeaten in conference play by taking down Belmont (7-19, 3-10 MVC), 25-17, 25-13, 25-13.Â
Laura Shoopman and Brooke Gilleland each tallied six kills for the Bruins, while Kristen Clemons added five and Missy Sterkel chipped in four.Â
Rachel McBride tallied 15 digs in the defeat, and now sits at 987 career digs, 13 shy of hitting 1,000.Â
Erina Shin, making her first career start at setter, finished with ten assists. Peyton O'Brien also tallied ten assists.Â
Shoopman, Shin, and Elizabeth Godfrey each collected a service ace.Â
The Bruins hit .200 in the third set, committing just two attack errors, but the Panthers were able to overpower them with an attacking mark of .407, collecting 18 kills to just three errors.Â
Belmont hit into just three Northern Iowa blocks, but struggled keeping balls in play, collecting 14 attack errors with 14 kills in the first two sets.Â
With five matches remaining in the regular season, the Bruins remain tied for tenth place in the MVC, with an opportunity to still clinch one of eight spots in the MVC Tournament, hosted this year by Evansville on Nov. 20-23.Â

Belmont returns home for a pair of important conference matches at the Curb Event Center. Â
The Bruins face Valparaiso on Friday night at 6 p.m. on Alumni Night, then will take on UIC on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. for Senior Night.Â
