Men's Soccer Finishes Regular Season With Road Draw at Evansville

Bruins will head to Chicago Sunday for MVC Quarterfinal at UIC

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - - Belmont University men's soccer earned another conference road result and a third consecutive clean sheet with a scoreless draw at Evansville Wednesday night from McCutchan Stadium. The Bruins received the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Missouri Valley Conference Tournament and will play at No. 4 seed UIC Sunday.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT.   The host Purple Aces controlled possession in the opening 45 minutes but lacked finishing touches in the final third.

In the 27th minute, Belmont goalkeeper Nate Logan did well to venture off his line and challenge an Evansville attack at the top of the box as Jose Vivas' off-balance shot attempt grazed the right post.

Michael Saunders and Esteban Leiva helped Belmont earn three corner kicks on counter attacks late in the first half, but the Bruins could not find the back of the net.

Belmont took control early in the second half, connecting passes and providing consistent pressure on the Evansville back line.

After chances from Saunders and Leiva, Kyle Barks had a promising opportunity in the 59th minute that worked past goalkeeper Alex Vidizzoni but sailed just high.

Logan did well to protect the Belmont goal in the 70th minute before the Bruins pressed even higher in the final 15 minutes.

Jansen Wilson earned a Bruin corner kick in the 78th minute and four minutes later a Leiva near post header was saved.

Belmont was whistled for three yellow cards – several on seemingly clean, physical challenges – which allowed Evansville to slow tempo and get organized.

Following a steady offensive push, Wilson nearly provided heroics in the 90th minute but his right-footed blast from 30 yards out went high.

Logan was credited with one save, as the Belmont back line was structured and formidable throughout the match.

The MVC Tournament will be broadcast on ESPN+.
