Box Score CONWAY, Ark.-- Belmont University Softball claimed victory over the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, 13-0. The Bruins showed up and showed out in the top of the sixth posting a ten run inning.
Top of the first Cheyenne Cavanaugh came out with a single to start the Bruins off in their second matchup of the day. Belmont was unable to bring Cavanaugh home with the following lineup.
The second and third innings were quiet for both teams. A defensively strong game, neither team was able to advance their runners home.
Both Ellison Ollinger and Audrey Lyle walked in the top of the fourth. Both successful in advancing a respective base on a wild pitch. Ollinger was caught stealing at home. The Bruins, full of durability, were able to bring in Lauren Veltri and Kaley Varner to score a pair of runs. Lauren Veltri doubled to center field bringing Lyle home. Varner, a clutch player in the box, ripped a triple to bring in Veltri, Bruins up 2-0.
A quick one two three inning in the bottom of the fourth for the Bruins to hold the 2-0 lead.
Top of the fifth Ensio started the Bruins off making it to first off of a bunt. With her speed Ensio followed up by stealing second. Alicia Veltri doubled to left field and extended the lead to 3-0 bringing in Ensio.
Top of the sixth the Bruins got to work at the plate. Lauren Veltri and Kaley Varner walked to get the Bruins on base. Cavanaugh singled through the gap into right field to advance Varner to third and score Veltri. Cavanigh then stole second to advance herself. Ensio came up to singlefor the Bruins scoring Varner, Cavanugh made it to third on the play. The Bruins were aggressive this inning, Ensio stole second leading to Cavanaugh scoring on the throw. Abi Ledbetter was up to bat with Ensio on second. Ledbetter laced a hit down the left field line to score Ensio. Mykayla Spurlin singled, moving Ledbetter into scoring position at third. Spurlin stole second while Killian Roberts walked. Bases loaded, Ollinger came up with a clutch single, moving to second on the throw with two RBI bringing in Spurlin and Ledbetter. Followed up with another 2 RBI single by Lyle bringing in Roberts and Ollinger. Lauren Veltri produced a double at the plate advancing Lyle to third. Parente with another clutch single scoring both Lyle and Veltri as the finale to the 10 run inning. This was the highest scoring inning for the Bruins thus far this season.
The Bruins have the speed around the bases to make fantastic offensive plays as we saw in Conway tonight. Belmont finished the matchup tallying 13 runs, 13 hits, 12 RBIs, six strikeouts, and seven stolen bases.
