EIU Preview

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Softball is set to host their final three game home series against the Eastern Illinois. The Bruins will kick off the weekend with a double header on Saturday, April 30 followed by a single game on Sunday, May 1. 

The Bruins will honor their graduates, Lauren Veltri, Jessica Parente, Elison Ollinger, Cheyenne Cavanaugh, and Alicia Veltri before Saturday's first game. Saturday at E.S. Rose Park is also Community Day. Fans can enjoy face painting, balloon animals, t-shirt giveaways, popsicles, photos with Bruiser, and run around the bases!

  • Belmont Softball holds a 27-12 record on the season and a 17-5 record in Ohio Valley Conference play posting five shutouts

  • The Bruins hold the first place spot in the OVC, originally picked eighth in the preseason order of finish

  • Belmont has been battling back and forth with Murray State for the top spot yet, the Racers are on a three game losing streak with loses against SEMO and Austin Peay

  • The Bruins lead the OVC in six categories batting average (.319), on base percentage (.392), scoring (6.03), slugging percentage (.455), stolen bases per game (2.18), and win loss percentage (.692) 

  • In those categories the Bruins rank in the top twenty nationally in batting average and stolen bases per game

  • Kristen Green remains the OVC leader in RBI per game at .97

  • Breaking the Belmont record for career stolen bases, Cheyenne Cavanaugh heads the OVC in stolen bases and stolen bases per game landing herself amongst the top twenty-five nationally in both 

  • Pitcher Alicia Veltiri holds the top spot in the OVC for walks per game at .61

  • Cavanaugh leads the Bruins in batting average (.417), on base percentage (.493), hits (50), and stolen bases (27) 

  • Kristen Green leads the Bruins in slugging percentage (.614), homeruns (7), and RBI (35)

  • Elison Ollinger heads the Bruins in doubles (7)

  • Emma Summers holds an 11-6 record on the season and pitched the first ever perfect game in Belmont history against Morehead State

  • Audrey Lyle picked up the Rich Tiner Altruism Award and the Academic Achievement Award at the Bruins' Choice Award ceremony

  • Emma Summers received female moment of the year for her perfect game 

About EIU 

  • The Panthers are 23-26 overall and 8-14 in OVC play

  • EIU had two walk off wins over SIUE in the past week 

  • The Panthers have posted 43 home runs this season

  • Megan Burton was the OVC player of the year last season

Series History 

  • The Bruins trail the Panthers in the all-time record book 11-4 

  • Belmont won a single game in their last three game series splitting the double header to avoid an EIU sweep

  • First baseman Abi Ledbetter soared a solo homerun last season against the Panthers
