NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- Belmont University Softball hits the road to compete against the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers in a midweek tilt.

First pitch will be thrown at 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed on the WKU Facebook page. 

At a Glance: 

• The Bruins competed against two Ohio Valley Conference Teams last week, Tennessee State University and UT Martin, 18-9 on the season 

• Belmont defeated TTU in both games by high margins and a shutout, the third of the season, 10-2 and 7-0

• The Bruins traveled to UT Martin went 2-1 on the weekend and posted their first two losses in conference competition in one-run decisions 

• Belmont holds the first place spot in the OVC accompanied by Murray State

• Shortstop Elison Ollinger diving catch to second baseman Kristen Green laying out for a double play made Sports Center's Top 10 at #6

• Kristen Green added three home runs to her season total of five last week

• Belmont leads the OVC in batting average (.314), on base percentage (.395), and stolen bases (2.56)

• The Bruins rank fourth in the nation in stolen bases per game 

• Cheyenne Cavanaugh heads the OVC in stolen bases at 22, thirteenth nationally 

• Cavanaugh's stolen bases per game also ranks at the top of the OVC, seventh nationally

• Pitcher Emma Summers remains the OVC leader in walks allowed per seven innings, tenth nationally

• Green runs the OVC in runs batted in per game at 1.12

• New to the staff this season Shannon Plese is a former Hilltopper where she was named to the Second Team All-Conference for her performance in the outfield

About the Hilltoppers 

• The Hilltoppers are 25-7 on the season 9-3 in conference 

• Most recently the WKU swept Florida International University outsourcing the panthers 24-10

• Pitcher Shelby Nunn received her second weekly accolade after the sweep as the pitcher of the week for Conference USA

• The Hilltoppers have received five weekly accolades this season 

Series History

• Belmont trails WKU in overall series record 20-1

• The Bruins defeated the Hilltoppers in 2017, 12-3

• This matchup has existed since 2000

• The Bruins are looking to battle against the Hilltoppers with all of the fresh talent they possess.
