NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In its first match on the brand new FIFA-certified synthetic soccer turf at E.S. Rose Park, the Belmont University men's soccer team played the University of Memphis to a scoreless draw through 90 minutes before the visiting Tigers scored on a penalty kick in the 101st minute. The Bruins' preseason exhibition opener featured two 30 minutes periods following a traditional 45-minute first half.
Â
Despite great looks at goal in the first 75 minutes of the exhibition match, Belmont couldn't find the back of the net. The Bruins got a pair of free kicks just outside the penalty box in the final 25 minutes of the 105-minute contest but both attempts were staved off.
Â
Memphis drew a foul inside the penalty area with just under four minutes remaining in the third and final period and converted on the PK. Belmont wasn't able to get another shot on target in the closing minutes.
