Grayson Murphy Signs Deal in Germany

OVC Career Assists & Steals Leader Begins Professional Playing Career

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball graduate Grayson Murphy has signed a professional playing contract with Phoenix Hagen in Germany, it was announced Thursday.

Murphy, who became the Ohio Valley Conference all-time career leader in assists (775) and steals (281), was a three-time All-OVC First Team and two-time OVC Defensive Player of the Year honoree as he led the Bruins to a 104-25 record during his distinguished career.

The Franklin, Tennessee native completed his Belmont career third among all active players in NCAA Division I men's basketball in assists and sixth in steals.

A two-time Lou Henson Mid-Major All-American, the 6-3 point guard was one of only six active players with multiple career triple-doubles.

Murphy was the only player in college basketball over the last 30 seasons to put up over 1,000 points, 800 rebounds, 700 assists and 250 steals.

The floor general had nine points, six rebounds and six assists in Belmont's NCAA Tournament victory over Temple in 2019.

This past season, Murphy made the game-winning basket vs. Morehead State (2/10/22), game-clinching free throws at Saint Louis (12/7/21) and game-saving blocked shot vs. Furman (11/15/21).
He was named NABC All-District three consecutive seasons (2020, 2021, 2022).

Murphy confirmed to belmontbruins.com he will be teammates with former Belmont All-American J.J. Mann.

Belmont University men's basketball has earned postseason invitations 15 of the last 17 seasons, including nine berths to the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins have won 20 conference championships since 2006 - third-most nationally over that span (Gonzaga, Kansas). Belmont has won 20 or more games in 12 consecutive seasons (Gonzaga, Kansas, Oregon). Belmont is one of only five NCAA Division I programs outside power conferences to post Top 100 rankings 12 consecutive seasons (Gonzaga, Saint Mary's (CA), San Diego State, Wichita State). Belmont University men's basketball boasts an NCAA-leading 19 CoSIDA Academic All-America selections since 2001 and is the only NCAA Division I program to make the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) Honor Roll every year of existence
