NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University men's soccer team closed out its preseason in style Saturday evening at E.S. Rose Park as the Bruins tallied four goals in a shutout victory over local NCAA Division II Trevecca Nazarene. Scoring two goals in each half, four different Belmont players found the back of the net in the Bruins' third and final exhibition match.
Â
It took just 13 minutes for Belmont to punch in a goal and the Bruins displayed oppressive defense until the final horn.
Â
Sophomore defender
Dylan Steely scored on a header in the 13th minute before junior Lake Erie College transfer forward
Ayden von Essen capitalized on a service from senior midfielder
Davis Eddleman with a left-footed strike in the 34th minute.
Â
In the second half, it was senior defender
John Bannec who notched Belmont's third goal in the 78th minute, doing so off a corner kick from junior Saint Louis University transfer midfielder
Sam Rowan.
Â
A breakaway by freshman midfielder
Simeon Betapudi in the 87th minute led to a beautiful goal to close out the evening.
Â
The 90 minutes of action with a stunning late-summer sunset as a backdrop served as the last dress rehearsal before the Bruins' season opener next Thursday.
