Women's Soccer Battles in First Loss of the Season

Women's Soccer Falls 2-0 to UNA

FLORENCE, Ala. – Belmont University Women's Soccer fell to the University of North Alabama, 2-0, in a competitive matchup. The Bruins held their own against the strong Lions' offense but were unlucky up top themselves.

The Bruins came out strong to begin the match controlling the possession, the Lions began flat yet, saw the energy from Belmont and reacted with their own. The first half consisted of a back-and-forth defensive game between the teams.

The Lions scored in the 42nd and 52nd minute. North Alabama's Alice Bussey scored both of the Lions' goals in today's matchup.

Belmont broke through offensively in the second half controlling possession on the Lions' end of the field, recording four of their seven shots in the second half. The Bruins dominated offensively in the final forty-five minutes yet fell short scoring.

"We didn't come out playing our A game today and it cost us. It is early in the season and we have the opportunity to learn from this. We had moments where it was clicking, but not enough. It reminds us of our expectation to understand the game plan and be able to execute it come game time," said Head Coach Heather Henson.

The Bruins recorded seven shots two of them coming from Maci Pekmezian. A great team effort on the pitch today as Kennedy Wise, Loren House, Mai Thy Nguyen, Addy Pitts, and Taylor Dorenkott each added a shot to their name. Belmont tallied four corner kicks in today's matchup. Head Coach Heather Henson integrated her bench efficiently in today's match giving 18 players minutes on the pitch.

Both Sarah Doyle and Taylor Wieland saw time in the net today. Doyle recorded five saves while Wieland tallied a single save.

The Bruins return home for their next meeting against state foe, Middle Tennessee on Sunday August 28. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed on ESPN+. Come one come all for kids' night! First 100 kids under 12 will receive a pair of Belmont sunglasses, and Bruiser will be in attendance!
