Women's Soccer Defensively Sound, Ties IUPUI

Belmont Records Second Draw of the Season 0-0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University Women's Soccer (1-1-2) put forth a defensive battle in a 0-0 draw against Indiana University- Purdue University Indianapolis Friday, September 2, at E.S. Rose Park.

The Bruins added their second consecutive tie to their record. For the Jaguars, this was their third successive 0-0 tie on the season.

Belmont created numerous opportunities for themselves on the pitch while playing fantastic defense to hold the Jaguars scoreless.

The Bruins produced 10 shots on the night, led by Avery Nowak's three. Closely followed by Maci Pekmezian and Addy Pitts' two shots.

There is something to be said about the Bruin's consistency in the backline. As Head Coach Heather Henson explained, "They each bring different elements to our game which collectively make our backline successful."

Sarah Doyle, trusted goalkeeper, gained even more trust from her teammates tonight after her three impeccable saves. "Sarah does a great job of organizing which helps eliminate shots from happening. They had shooting opportunities tonight but she was able to find all the right angles while attacking and being aggressive," said Coach Heather Henson.

A 30-minute rain delay during halftime gave the Bruins extra time to implement their game plan.

In the 74th minute the Bruins threatened the Jaguars, Eliza Paisley's initial shot was saved by Ashton Kuldo. With the goalkeeper off the line and the ball bobbling around in the box both Nowak and Pitts were able to get a foot on it yet, fell unlucky.

The Bruins fought until the very end, 16 players saw the pitch tonight, while Olivia Walker earned her first career start as a Bruin.

"They did a great job playing within the game plan we constructed. They found a rhythm in our game plan to be creative to initiate more chances," said Coach Heather Henson.

Up Next: The Bruins begin their road travel on Sunday, September 4 against Western Kentucky University. Belmont will face five consecutive opponents on the road before returning home September 25 for their home conference opener against Southern Illinois.
