CEDAR FALLS, Iowa. - - Belmont University women's soccer (3-9-7) faced #6 Valparaiso (8-5-6) in the opening round of the MVC Tournament on Thursday afternoon. Overcast skies. A wet pitch, and strong winds all made the playing conditions less than ideal for each team. An early first-half goal from the Beacons was all the scoring action in the match.
Valparaiso scored in the eighth minute off one of their eight corner kicks in the half. Kelsie James served the ball in for Lindsey Dusatko, as she finished the play with a header.
Belmont showed tremendous fight and resilience in a physical match. In the second half, Belmont had opportunities for an equalizer, but failed to convert.
Valparaiso won the match, 1-0, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the MVC Championship.
