Bruins Return to McKale Center for First Time Since 2011 NCAA Tournament

TUCSON, Ariz. - - Belmont University men's basketball plays at [3/3] Arizona Friday at the McKale Center.
 
Win Miller scored a career-high 17 points as Belmont defeated Berry, 93-59, Tuesday.
 
Ja'Kobi Gillespie tied the Curb Event Center record with seven steals.

Senior Keishawn Davidson ranks ninth in career assists (507) among active players NCAA Division I players.

Belmont turns the page after graduating program standout and Indiana Pacers guard Ben Sheppard and sharpshooting forward Drew Friberg, among others. Sheppard and Friberg combined to make 177 3-point field goals last season, ranking among national leaders.

  • The Bruins went 21-11 last season, placing third in their inaugural season in the Missouri Valley Conference.
  • Isaiah Walker is the lone Bruin with more than two years of experience with the program.

  • Belmont has been ranked in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 for 18 consecutive seasons, dating back to 2006.
  • Belmont has received national poll votes in 11 of the last 13 seasons.
  • Belmont will play up 13 games vs. teams who were Q1/Q2 in the final 2022-23 NET rankings.
This marks the second meeting between Belmont and Arizona. The programs met in the 2013 NCAA Tournament in Salt Lake City, Utah. The 18th-ranked Wildcats won, 81-64.
 
Belmont has posted victories over Pac-12 Conference opponents UCLA and Stanford in recent years, with close calls at Washington and Arizona State.

Belmont played in the 2011 NCAA Tournament at the McKale Center in Tucson, Arizona. The Bruins played 16th-ranked Wisconsin. Despite holding the Badgers to 10 points in the paint, Belmont dropped a 72-58 decision.
 
Casey Alexander's final game as an assistant coach at Belmont was the Bruins' 2011 NCAA Tournament appearance at McKale Center. Days later he would be named head coach at Stetson University.
 
Belmont Director of Player Development Kerron Johnson led the Bruins to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (2011, 2012, 2013). He played in the McKale Center as a sophomore, and the final game of his Belmont hall of fame career was against Arizona. Johnson scored a team-high 22 points. He went on to play professionally for nine seasons.

Arizona legends Steve Kerr and Andre Iguodala were on the Golden State Warriors with Belmont legend Ian Clark during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. The trio won an NBA Championship together in 2017. Kerr called Clark one of his favorite players ever to coach.
 
Former Arizona guards Bennedict Mathurin and T.J. McConnell are teammates of Belmont legend and NBA rookie Ben Sheppard on the Indiana Pacers.
