Softball Falls at UAB in Final Game of the Blazer Bash

Belmont Recored First Loss of the Season

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Belmont Softball fell 6-4 to the University of Alabama Birmingham for their first loss of the season to close out the Blazer Bash.Ā 

The Bruins posted another impressive weekend to finish with a 7-1 record.Ā 

Kristen Green had a fantastic day at the plate going 4-4. Green posted a single and double for 2 RBI on the day.Ā 

Ellie Giles earned her second career start with three strikeouts. Emma Summers came in to relieve Giles and close out the game.Ā 

How it Happened
The Bruins got the game started in the second inning. Brenna Blume and Daria Haynie singled to get on base for the Bruins. Both were brought home by an Abi Ledbetter single for her first hit of the season.Ā 

UAB countered quickly with a run on a tag up play, 2-1.Ā 

Belmont continued on their hot streak in the third inning. Two outs against the Bruins, Grace Gressly at the plate sends a single to right field to get her base. Green sent out a double to score Gressly and go up over the Blazers 3-1.Ā 

Top of the fifth the Bruins produced 5 hits. Baie Ensio, Nicole Hughes, Green and Emily Cockrill each added a single to their name. Green's RBI single of the day scored Ensio, 4-1.Ā 

Bottom of the fifth the Blazers found their rhythm and sent out a 2 run home run followed by an RBI single to tie the game 4-4.Ā 

The Blazers extended their lead in the sixth after multiple substitutions. The Blazers scored two runs to take their first lead over the Bruins, 6-4.Ā 

Green was on base again for the Bruins in the seventh but was unable to be brought home.Ā 

Up Next:Ā 
The Bruins will appear in the Mercer Bear Invitational beginning Friday, February 24. At the invitational they will face Mercer University, Jacksonville University, Tennessee Tech, and South Carolina.
