MACON, Ga.-- Belmont University Softball dominated former Ohio Valley Conference foe, Tennessee Tech in a midday thriller 12-2 at Sikes Field.
Emily Cockrill and Kaley Varner posted back to back solo home runs in the 7th to seal the deal.Â
Ellie Giles picked up her second win of the season after another great performance in the circle for the Bruins. Emma Summers closed out the game for Belmont to hold the Golden Eagles to 2 runs on the day. Together they earned four strikeouts on the day allowing only two hits.Â
How it Happened
It wasn't until the top of the fifth that the Bruins got started at the plate. Kaley Varner led the charge with a single. Both Daria Haynie and Kailey Brown walked to load the bases. Kristen Green was hit by a pitch to begin the scoring for the day. Belmont capitalized on their base runners with Nicole Hughes and Brenna Blume each blasting a 2 RBI single to add additional damage to the Golden Eagles, 5-0.Â
Back to Varner and Haynie to each get on base to start the 6th. Abi Ledbetter delivered with a sacrifice fly to score Varner. Ensio blasted a double through left field to score Haynie. Ensio was quickly brought home courtesy of Kristen Green's twelfth hit of the season, 8-0.Â
The Golden Eagles attempted a comeback in the sixth to score 2 runs on a single, one of their two hits of the day and a sacrifice fly.Â
To add insult to injury in the seventh, Emily Cockrill posted her first home run of the season. Kaley Varner sent out her third home run of the year to close out the win.Â
