Baseball Outslugged by No. 21 North Carolina State on Sunday

Blake Barton Homers, but NC State Hits Three Out in 7-1 Bruin Defeat in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Blake Barton homered for the first time in his career, but No. 21 North Carolina State overwhelmed the Belmont University baseball team on Sunday, handing the Bruins a 7-1 defeat at Doak Field in Raleigh.

NC State (7-0) continued their onslaught of home runs on the weekend with three more on Sunday, pushing their series total to eight and helping power the Wolfpack past Belmont (2-6).

Barton's home run came in the seventh inning, a leadoff laser that cleared the wall in left-center field. The long ball came two days after the sophomore catcher's first career three-hit game on Friday night at Doak Field.

Jett Thielke went 1 1/3 innings out of the bullpen with no runs given up, and freshman Simon Tesh made his collegiate debut with a scoreless frame out of the bullpen.

Belmont tallied six hits in the contest, and left six men on base. NC State recorded nine hits, including three doubles and three home runs.

Wolfpack batters drew nine walks in the game, while Wolfpack pitchers issued no free passes.

Dominic Baratta (L, 0-1) started on the mound for the Bruins, breezing through the first inning before running into trouble in the second inning.

NC State hit two home runs in the frame to go up 3-0 and added to their lead with two more runs in the fourth, a solo home run in the fifth, and a run-scoring double in the sixth.

Belmont got their leadoff man aboard in the second inning when Mason Landers cranked a double down the left field line, and again got the leadoff man on base in the sixth inning on a bunt single from Jack Rando. However, in both cases, the Bruins came away empty-handed.
