NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- With big performances from Jeff Clarke and Andy Bean, the Belmont University baseball team coasted to a 9-0 win over Lindenwood in the series opener on Friday night at E.S. Rose Park.Â
Clarke finished a double shy of the cycle, going 4-for-5 with a home run, a triple, three RBIs, three runs scored, and a stolen base.Â
On the mound, Andy Bean (W, 1-3) earned his first win of the season behind seven shutout innings. The junior did not issue a walk and struck out seven over the outing, scattering just five hits, all of them singles.Â
Jake Timbes came on in relief and gave up no hits while walking just one over the final two innings to secure the win.Â
It marks the first time this season that Belmont has shutout an opponent.Â
Belmont (8-11) struck first in the opening inning when Clarke tripled with one out to right center field before Mason Landers put a ball in play on the infield to drive in the Bruin center fielder.Â
In the third inning, Clarke singled to set the table for a Landers RBI double, bringing the score to 2-0 in favor of the home team.Â
Landers finished his night 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a double.
Belmont broke the game open with a seven-run fourth inning, with Max Blessinger singling up the middle to score Max Jones to start the explosion.Â
After a Sam Kirkpatrick RBI double to center field that scored Blessinger, Clarke stepped in with two runners on and proceeded to blast a no-doubter to right field, giving Belmont a 7-0 lead with his second home run of the season.Â
Belmont closed out the scoring with a Blake Barton triple to left-center that scored Landers and a Brodey Heaton RBI grounder that drove in Barton.Â
