Softball Drops the Second Game of the Series to the Redbirds

Belmont is now 1-1 Looking to take the Series Tomorrow

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- Belmont University Softball fell 4-2 in a tight matchup against the Illinois State Redbirds Saturday, March 18.

The Bruins now stand 1-1 on the weekend looking to clinch the series in the rubber match scheduled for Sunday, March 19 at 2 p.m. Tomorrow's game has been pushed back two hours to avoid cold temperatures in Nashville. 

How it Happened
The Redbirds were looking for revenge after falling 4-1 in yesterday's game. Illinois State posted two singles in the first to set the tone for both teams. 

Delainey Bryant sent out a 2 RBI single in the second to put the Redbirds ahead. Top of the fourth continued her hitting streak, Bryant produced a 2 RBI double to take the 4-0 lead over the Bruins

The Bruins recorded their two runs on the day in the fifth inning. Ally Turner pinch hit to earn herself first base on a walk. Nicole Hughes followed with a single to put two on. Emily Cockrill sent out an RBI double to put the Bruins on the board. Kristen Green also posted an RBI single to decrease the deficit, 4-2. 

Belmont held the Redbirds to four runs, Summers pitched a full game to earn four strikeouts on two earned runs. Baie Ensio tallied seven putouts on the day for her career high. 

Up Next: Belmont Softball will take on Illinois State for the final game of the series Sunday, March 19 at 2 p.m. at E.S. Rose Park.
