Softball Tops the Lady Toppers in Midweek Matchup

Belmont Earned their Seventeenth Win of the Season

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Belmont University Softball picked up their 17th win of the season over the cross state rival Western Kentucky University 2-0.

The Bruins set the tone for the night in the second inning to go up by one over the Lady Toppers. Abi Ledbetter started the inning by reaching on an error from WKU. Ledbetter made her way to third by capitalizing on Baie Ensio and Kailey Brown's ground outs. Kathryn Flowers sent out a single to score Ledbetter for an unearned run.Ā 

Belmont posted their second run of the game in the sixth. Ledbetter, seeing more action at the plate, walked to get on base for the Bruins. Savannah Halterman came into the matchup to pinch run. Kailey Brown sent a double through right field to score Halterman.Ā 

The Bruins posted seven hits on the day with Flowers leading at the plate. Flowers went 2-2 on the day in the past three games she has posted six hits and four RBI for the Bruins.Ā 

Bottom of the seventh the Bruins loaded the bases on two fielder's choice situations and a single but were unable to bring a run in.

Belmont featured three pitchers on the night, Emma Summers earned her fourth win of the season against the Hilltoppers. Ellie Giles picked up her first save of the season as well. The pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts on the night.Ā 

Up Next: The Bruins will face the Evansville Aces in a weekend series in Evansville, Ind. The weekend will commence March 31 at 5 p.m. CT.Ā
