Softball Defeats the Sycamores 2-1 to Enter into the Rubber Match

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- Belmont University Softball defeated the Indiana State Sycamores 2-1 in the second meeting to tie up the series. 

The Bruins will face the Sycamores in the rubber match Sunday, April 16. The first pitch is set for 12 p.m. CT. 

Emma Summers pitched a complete game for her ninth win of the season. Summers added two strikeouts to her name for a season total of 82. 

How it Happened
The Sycamores attacked early, scoring their sole run of the game in the first inning on an RBI double from Kennedy Shade. 

A solo homerun from Emily Cockrill, her fourth of the season, tied the game in the fifth 1-1 to spark the Bruins' lineup. Brenna Blume and Abi Ledbetter both walked to continue the inning. Savannah Haltmerman was called in to pinch run for Blume and scored the go ahead run on Nicole Hughes' RBI single. 

Prior to the fifth inning the Bruins produced 4 hits from Kristen Green and Kylie Cunningham alongside Cockrill and Hughes who each posted two hits on the day. 

Summers' second strikeout of the day came in a clutch time during the seventh to hold the Sycamores from scoring and give the Bruins two outs.
