Softball Drops Second Game of the Series to the Bears

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Belmont University Softball fell 11-7 to the Missouri State Bears in a home run affair in the second meeting of the series. 

Between the two teams there were seven home runs on the day. For the Bruins, Nicole Hughes, Kristen Green, and Kaley Varner each posted a homer. 

How it Happened
The Bears began the scoring on the day on a solo home run from McKenzie Vaughan. 

Hughes quickly countered as the leadoff batter for a solo home run to tie the matchup 1-1. 

Kristen Green posted a two RBI home run to take the first lead of the day for the Bruins. 

A fielding error resulted in the Bears second run, a three RBI home run from Olivia Krehbiel put the Bears ahead 5-3. 

The Bears posted a home run, RBI single, and RBI double in the fourth to extend their lead to 8-3.

Belmont began their rally in the fifth on an RBI single from Green. In the sixth Varner added a three RBI homer to go down by a single run. 

Missouri State added insurance on a double and home run from Olivia Krehbiel to finalize the scoring for the day 11-7. 

Kristen Green went 4-3 on the day for three RBI on the day. Ellie Giles pitched four innings in the circle, Kailey Brown saw time in the circle today earning two strikeouts. Emma Summers closed out the game for the Bruins with two strikeouts as well.
