Softball Falls in Final Game of the Week

Blume went 3-4 on the Day with Four RBI

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Belmont University Softball fell 8-5 in the final competitive matchup of the series against Missouri State University. 

Brenna Blume went 3-4 on the day with four RBI on a solo homerun, a two RBI single, and an RBI single. The Bruins posted 12 hits against the Bears. 

How it Happened
Emily Cockrill posted the first hit of the day, a double for the Bruins in the first. 

A double and single from the Bears posted the first runs of the day to go up 2-0 over the Bruins. 

Brenna Blume immediately countered with her solo home run to cut the deficit in half. The Bruins held the Bears to the 2-1 score in the second. Top of the third Blume sent out an RBI single to score Kristen Green who reached on a fielder's choice to tie the game 2-2. 

Kenzie Derryberry of the Bears singled to score the lead run. A double steal situation gave Missouri State four runs on the day. 

Missouri State's Alex Boze sent out a two run home run. With the bases loaded later in the inning the Bears scored their seventh run on a walk. 

Belmont added three runs in the fifth to keep themselves in the ball game. Nicole Hughes sent out a double to score Green. Blume posted her final hit of the day for a two RBI single. 

The Bears posted the final run of the day on a home run from McKenzie Vaughan. 

Belmont went 1-3 on the week with a win over Lipscomb in a midweek contest and three tight conference losses. The Bruins posted 25 runs on 37 hits. Emily Cockrill tallied a .500 average with 3 doubles to her name to lead in the category with 10. Hughes, Blume, Green, and Kaley Varner each posted a home run on the week. 

Up Next: The Bruins will face the Murray State Racers for the final midweek clash of the regular season in Murray, Ky. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. CT.
