NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball head coach
Casey Alexander announced Tuesday incoming student-athlete Will Shaver has signed and submitted his financial aid agreement to join the Bruin program.
Â
Shaver, a 6-10 forward from Birmingham, Alabama, was a letterwinner at the University of North Carolina this past season.
Â
"Will possesses the combination of size and skill our coaching staff loves, and that has thrived in our program's history," Alexander said. "Will gives us offensive flexibility; allowing us to play our traditional four-out, one-in or showcase his shooting ability on the perimeter and stretch the floor. Will is hungry, driven and will make us better immediately. Now with Will and Win Miller, it is exciting to have two of the best players out of Birmingham in recent years."
Â
Gaining experience practicing against All-American post Armando Bacot, Shaver saw three game appearances for the Tar Heels in 2022-23.
Â
A prep standout at Oak Mountain High School, Shaver averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game over three seasons. He was twice named Alabama All-State and led the Eagles to the 2021 Class 7A State Championship.
Â
Shaver joins Malik Dia, Win Miller, Sam Orme, Brigham Rogers and Drew Scharnowski in Belmont's incoming class.
