Bruins and Racers Battle in Scoreless Draw

Doyle Shines In Fourth Shutout Performance

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont women's soccer (1-5-4, 0-0-2 MVC) squared off with Murray State (2-6-2, 0-0-2 MVC) Thursday night at E.S. Rose Park. Belmont won the last two meetings against the 2022 MVC Tournament Runner-Ups. Neither team found the back of the goal, as the match ended in a scoreless draw.
 
Murray State came out the gate fiery and quickly went to work offensively. The Racers ran most of their offense through Mary Hardy, who finished the first half with six shots with four on goal.
 
Sarah Doyle remained calm, cool, and collected in goal, as the veteran goalkeeper recorded siz saves in the first half. She finished the night with seven, as she recorded her fourth shutout of the season.
 
Belmont's defense tightened up in the second half, which brought new life to their offense. The Bruins finished the night with six shots, and was led by Leah Firsdon who placed both of her shots on goal.
 
"I thought it was a really good result," said head coach Kelsey Cameron. "We were probably the most dangerous in the attack than we've been in a while."
 
Both teams left the pitch with a point and still in search of their first conference win of the season. "I'm proud of our team for our effort and heart against a very good Murray State team," said Cameron.
 
Bruin Bullets
  • Sarah Doyle recorded seven saves in the match, which brings her season total to 65. This was her fourth shutout performance of the season.
  • Leah Firsdon and Avery Nowak bother recorded two shots. Eliza Paisley and Carly Ross also recorded a shot in the match.
  • Belmont remains undefeated to start MVC play.
