NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Volleyball Program (7-9, 1-1 MVC) faced Evansville (6-6, 1-1 MVC) in a Saturday night matchup. The Bruins started off strong but fell to the Aces in four sets.Â

How it Happened
Â
Belmont started off strong in set one. The Bruins put together a 4-0 run to take a 14-7 lead midway through the set.
Brenna Kauffeld and
Sydney Willis teamed up for a block followed by a kill from Kauffeld to push the lead to 16-8. The Aces later went on a 4-0 run to work their way back in the game. Despite their late comeback, Kauffeld and Willis continued to protect the net by adding two more blocks to help push Belmont to a 25-21 set one win.

The Bruins had a slow start in the second. Cardona Giulia continued to apply pressure on the Belmont defense with big swings that quickly put the Bruins down 7-12.
Kristen Clemons and Warmenhoven recorded back-to-back kills to tie it up for the Bruins at 18 all. Evansville put together a late run to regain control and take the set 19-25.

Evansville came out strong in set three. Their front court continued to put pressure on the Bruin defense and helped the Aces take an 11-16 lead. With a couple of Evansville errors and kills from Clemons and Warmenhoven, Belmont began working their way back in the set at 17-20. The Aces then went on a 5-0 run to take the set 17-25.Â

Set four was a back-and-forth battle between the Aces and Bruins. Both teams traded big swings where Belmont's
Brooke Gilleland tallied five kills in the set. With a kill from Clemons, the set was tied at 13 all. Belmont then went on a 3-0 run capped off by an ace from
Kamryn Olson to take a 16-15 lead. Giulia put together three big kills down the stretch and the Aces quickly took back over. The Bruins eventually dropped set four and the match 20-25.

Belmont will return to the Curb Event Center on Tuesday for a conference matchup versus Murray State at 6 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats can be found on belmontbruins.com.
