LEXINGTON, Ky. - - Belmont women's soccer (1-4-2) visited Kentucky (5-0-1) Thursday night for the first all-time matchup between the two programs. Head Coach Kelsey Cameron returned to her alma matter, and was honored before the match for her four-year career from 2004-07. The Wildcats scored first and left little room for Belmont's offense to mount attacks, as Kentucky won, 3-0.
Two Bruins added bolstered their resumes with significant milestones. Goalkeeper
Sarah Doyle recorded her 200
th career save in the 9
th minute of the match. She finished the match with 10, a new season high, and brings her career total to 208.
Avery Nowak started in her 70
th career match, which is the most among active Bruins. She currently sits tied for eighth all-time, and is hunting down the program record of 76 set by Jessica Rix '11.
The match was physical from the start. Belmont faced an undefeated Kentucky team in their final match of a four-match homestand. Kentucky scored in the first minute of the match. Úlfa Úlfarsodóttir whipped a shot in goal off assists from Tanner Strickland and Grace Hoytink.
Kentucky outshot the Bruins 9-0 in the half, and went into the locker room leading, 1-0.
The Wildcats scored in the 48
th minute off an unassisted goal from Maya Lacognato. Kentucky's Ella Kane scored the third goal for the Wildcats in the 83
rd minute off an assist from Maria Castaldo.
Kentucky won the match, 3-0, and improved to 5-0-1 on the season.
