PADUCAH, Ky. – The Belmont women's tennis team picked up their second win of the season as they defeated former OVC rival Southeast Missouri 5-2 in an indoor match played Friday afternoon in Paducah, Kentucky.
The Bruins posted the first point of the match as they captured two out of three doubles matches. At number two, juniors
Abi Solomon and
Viktoria Kliimand defeated Cosima Calinescu and Vivian Lai 7-5. Then at three, the freshman duo of
Vesa Gjinaj and
Hana Sokolovic beat Lera Valeeva and Maja Bajorek 6-4.Â
The Redhawks won at number one as Daniela Hlacikova and Juliette Talieu outlasted
Mariia Hlahola and
Anastasiya Zholdakova 6-4.
In singles, Belmont earned wins at four of six positions to clinch the 5-2 match win over SEMO.Â
At number one, Hlahola swept Hlacikova in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.Â
At number three, Gjinaj beat Talieu 7-6, (7-5), 6-3.Â
Then at four, Solomon defeated Bajorek 6-3, 7-5, while Kliimand swept Lai 6-2, 6-3 at the umber five position.Â
Today's victory snapped a four-match losing streak to the Redhawks. Belmont last beat SEMO in March of 2019.Â
The women's tennis team (2-0) is back in action tomorrow morning at 10:00am as they face Austin Peay in Paducah.
