PADUCAH, Ky. – The Belmont women's tennis extended their win streak to three as they defeated Austin Peay 6-1 in a neutral site match played indoors Saturday in Paducah, Kentucky.
The Bruins earned the first point of the match as they captured two of three doubles matches. At position one,
Mariia Hlahola and
Anastasiya Zholdakova defeated Denise Torrealba and Sophia Baranov 6-2. Then at two,
Abi Solomon and Viki Kliimand beat Yu-Hua Cheng and Asia Fontana 6-4.Â
Austin Peay won the doubles match at number three as Luca Bohlen/Pauline Bruns swept
Vesa Gjinaj and
Hana Sokolovic 6-0.
In singles, Belmont won five of six matches to clinch the 6-1 match victory.Â
At one, Hlahola defeated Torrealba 6-4, 6-2. Then at two, Gjinaj outlasted Baranov 7-5, 6-4.
Zholdakova earned the win at number three as she defeated Fontana 6-4, 6-1. At four, Solomon beat Bohlen 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). Finally at number five, Kliimand swept Cheng 6-4, 6-2.
The Lady Govs won at number six as Bruns defeated Sokolovic 6-2, 6-3.Â
Saturday's win snapped a seven-match losing streak to Austin Peay. Before today, the Bruins' last win over the Lady Govs was during the 2014-15 season.Â
The women's tennis team is back in action next Saturday as they play at Ole Miss. The match is set for 11:00am in Oxford.Â
