Jailyn Banks Earns Fourth MVC Freshman of the Week Award

Standout Guard Has Scored 16 Points in All Three Valley Wins

ST. LOUIS – Continuing her sensational start to her collegiate career, Belmont University women's basketball's Jailyn Banks has once again been tabbed Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week. Announced by the conference office Tuesday morning, it is the standout guard's fourth MVC Freshman of the Week award this season.
 
Banks was selected as the Valley's freshman of the week the first two weeks of the season (Nov. 13 and Nov. 20) and earned the weekly plaudit on Dec. 11 for the week of Dec. 4-10.
 
The Spring Hill, Tennessee (Middle Tennessee Christian School), native had another outstanding week last week averaging 16 points on 52.4 percent (11-of-21) shooting. Going 8-for-10 at the free-throw line and 2-for-5 from beyond the arc, Banks helped lead the Bruins to a 2-0 week with home victories over Illinois State and Bradley. She also averaged 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in the two MVC triumphs.
 
In Belmont's convincing 64-52 win against the fellow defending MVC regular season champion Redbirds last Thursday night, Banks poured in 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting and tallied four rebounds, three assists and a steal. On Saturday afternoon in the Bruins' 89-47 rout of the Braves, Banks scored a game-high 16 points for the third-straight outing. Connecting on her lone three-point attempt, Banks went 5-for-9 from the floor and was 5-for-6 at the foul line while adding four rebounds and a trio of assists once again.
 
In 10 of her first 14 games, Banks has scored in double figures. She has distributed at least three assists in eight-straight games.
 
In just its second year in the Valley, Belmont is off to a 3-0 start in MVC play.
 
The Bruins make their first MVC road trip of the season this weekend when they travel to Indiana. Belmont faces Evansville Friday at 11 a.m. at the Ford Center in Evansville, before taking on Indiana State Sunday at noon CT/1 p.m. ET in Terre Haute, Indiana. Both road games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
